When I was a child growing up in Blunt, South Dakota, my classmates and I visited the home of Mentor Graham as part of our study of Abraham Lincoln. Mentor Graham was Abraham Lincoln's teacher at one time, so his former home in my small community is on the National Registry as a historical landmark. This painting was completed to be used as a donation for the community fundraiser for the celebration of their 125th anniversary event in June 2009. My work on this piece brought back many fond memories from my childhood and I hope whoever eventually hangs it on their wall will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed the creative process.
